The BLACK Report: Teresa Jenee: Live @ Lola

Words by Corey Black
My first memory of hearing Teresa Jenee sing was when I was in the 2nd grade. She sang Bette Midler's "The Wind Beneath My Wings" at the school talent show. I can still remember the white dress she wore and the three fluffy ponytails in her hair. Fast forward some twenty plus years, and I am still hearing her voice. I am still remembering her outfits. I am still remember her hair. Her voice gets stronger and her presence more memorable every time she steps on stage. With this growth, more and more doors are opening up for this North St. Louis native. She was nominated for two 2010 Riverfront Times Awards (click here to vote) and at her performance at the RFT Music Showcase at Lola, it was evident why she was considered as a nominee. I can show you better than I can tell you.

Shukuru2

The buzz is heating up for St. Louis' own fashion label, Shukuru 2. Born and raised in St. Louis, founder and designer Shukuru Bilal began designing womens' clothing over 20 years ago. Recently her eclectic, yet feminine designs have been featured in Delux magazine as well as the St. Louis American newspaper.   Currently she does custom designs by appointment and her clothing line can be found at Lee J. boutique downtown on Washington Avenue, with plans to expand into other local boutiques.

So what's next for Shukuru? She has several fashion shows lined up in the near future as well as a new company specializing in personal shopping/stylist services for professional women.  For more information about this emerging talent, please visit her website http://www.shukuru2.com/ or contact her at shukuru2@gmail.com

SociaLife: Memorial Day Weekend

If you're still saying there's nothing to do in St. Louis, clearly you must live in a cave.  I'm typically the stay at home type, but this weekend was filled with all sorts of fun stuff to do.

The bestie and I started the weekend off right with Sex and the City 2 at the beautiful Moolah Theatre.  I will admit, I was a tad bit extra with the plunging neckline and Manolo Blahniks just to go see a movie, but for Carrie Bradshaw and the girls, I think I get a pass.

Marci and I at the Moolah Theatre

Quality time at the pool with my lil man :-)

Had a awesome time with my "Sweet Face" at the Jill Scott/Maxwell Concert . . .
 . . .followed by a stop at S.L.U.M Fest.

And to finish the weekend off (and officially start the summer),
